The Edmunds Company is a provider of automotive information via web sites which has been founded in 1966 as a book publishing company, books and other media. The Edmunds Company is headquartered in Santa Monica, California and maintains an office outside of Detroit, Michigan. Edmunds is privately-held.

Edmunds includes prices for new and used vehicles, a database of national and regional incentives and rebates, vehicle test drive reviews by road test editors, and tips and advice on all aspects of car purchases and ownership. Much of this information is also distributed through the wireless of Edmunds web site, accessible via Internet-enabled cell phones and PDAs. In addition, the company circulates free e-mail newsletters to voluntary subscribers.

Edmunds Company is the best known for providing data through its "True Market Value" pricing tools, which launched in 2000. The True Market Value of New Vehicle Calculator provides the estimated average price to the consumers. Their True Market Value Used Vehicle Appraiser estimates the actual transaction prices for used vehicles bought and sold by dealers and private parties.

Because of its used car price listings, Edmunds is often likened to Kelley Blue Book and used car values are often compared between the two. It estimates actual transaction prices, while KBB lists suggested dealer asking prices. KBB indicates the price at which the dealer would like to transact; it also suggests that consumers can negotiate beyond that price.

In 2005, Edmunds launched Inside Line, a free online magazine for automotive enthusiasts. Inside Line delivers automotive content in the form of videos, photos, blogs, news articles, discussion boards and road tests. By 2006, Edmunds launched Carspace, which is a social networking site dedicated to car enthusiasts and aimed at competition to established sites such as MySpace, Friendster.com and Cardomain.
